چکیده

II The SABLE field experiments investigated the use of phase-conjugate adaptive optics to compensate for strong thermal blooming and turbulence. The experiments, conducted at the TRW Capistrano Test Site in southern California over horizontal paths of 100 and 400 m, were designed to explore issues related to the propagation ofhigh-power lasers from the ground to space. The laser used in the experiments was the 10-kW hydrogen-fluoride (HF) Alpha Verification Module (AVM). Considerable diagnostic instrumentation was incorporated into SABLE to enable detailed measurements of the characteristics of the beam at both ends of the propagation path, the atmosphere along the path, and the adaptive optics system. The measurements were used both to interpret the experimental results and to test the accuracy of MOLLY, a four-dimensional computer propagation code developed at Lincoln Laboratory. SABLE demonstrated that (1) phase-conjugate adaptive optics can successfully compensate for severe blooming in the real atmosphere over a wide range of atmospheric conditions, (2) wind variations suppress the phase-compensation instabllity (PCl) and improve system performance significandy, and (3) the computer propagation code can accurately predict system performance for adaptive optics compensation of turbulence and severe thermal blooming in the real atmosphere.

Effect of fog on free-space optical links employing imaging receivers.

We analyze free-space optical links employing imaging receivers in the presence of misalignment and atmospheric effects, such as haze, fog or rain. We present a detailed propagation model based on the radiative transfer equation. We also compare the relative importance of two mechanisms by which these effects degrade link performance: signal attenuation and image blooming. We show that image bl...

Rainfall-enhanced blooming in typhoon wakes

Strong phytoplankton blooming in tropical-cyclone (TC) wakes over the oligotrophic oceans potentially contributes to long-term changes in global biogeochemical cycles. Yet blooming has traditionally been discussed using anecdotal events and its biophysical mechanics remain poorly understood. Here we identify dominant blooming patterns using 16 years of ocean-color data in the wakes of 141 typho...

Thai Blooming Flower Recognition Artidtaya Suppaiboonvong a Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science

The objective of this research is to build an automatic method for recognizing a Thai blooming flower based on minimum distance for finding similarities between each type of Thai blooming flower. The Euclidean distance technique was applied in order to improve performance of retrieval processes. The flower images were acquired from digital cameras which were taken at close range to ignore the b...

On Efficiency of Non-Monotone Adaptive Trust Region and Scaled Trust Region Methods in Solving Nonlinear Systems of Equations

In this paper we run two important methods for solving some well-known problems and make a comparison on their performance and efficiency in solving nonlinear systems of equations‎. ‎One of these methods is a non-monotone adaptive trust region strategy and another one is a scaled trust region approach‎. ‎Each of methods showed fast convergence in special problems and slow convergence in other o...

Atmospheric Effects On Ejecta Emplacement

Laboratory experiments allow the investigation of complex interactions between impacts and an atmosphere. Although small in scale, they can provide essential first-order constraints on the processes affecting late-stage ballistic ejecta and styles of ejecta emplacement around much larger craters on planetary surfaces. The laboratory experiments involved impacting different fine-grained particul...
